VIRGINIA BCIA 2001 STAUNTON BULL AND HEIFER SALE RESULTS

            The 27th Annual Virginia All Breed Performance Tested Bull and Commercial Heifer Sale was held at Augusta Expoland near Staunton, Virginia on Saturday, December 1, 2001.  Nine Angus bulls grossed $12,400 to average $1378.  An excellent set of 45 commercial spring-calving bred heifers grossed $42,625 for a $947 average.

 

            Glenara Farms of Marshall, Virginia consigned the two top-selling bulls, which both sold to W.L. Harris of Lexington , Virginia for $1675 each.  A January, 2000 son of Plowman 1627 of Mill Brae SAR had EPDs of birth weight +3.7, weaning weight +42, maternal milk +18, and yearling weight +84, with an on-farm test gain of 4.01.  The February, 2000 son of Lukens 9440 Scotch Cap L463 had EPDs of birth weight +4.1, weaning weight +40, maternal milk +16, and yearling weight +79.

 

            The commercial bred replacement heifer was paced by a Tucker Family Farms of Amherst, Virginia consignment of three 1/2 Angus x 1/2 Gelbvieh heifers bred to Rito 6I6 of 4B20 6807 and KCF Bennett 561 G5.  These heifers sold to Charles Props of Mt. Solon, Virginia for $1120 each.  Cleremont Farm in Upperville, Virginia sold four Angus females confirmed due in February, 2002 to BAR Ext Traveler 205 to E.L Cochran of Jetersville, Virginia for $1100 each.  Another Cleremont consignment of 4 females with identical genetics brought $1000 each.

 

            The bulls and heifers were consigned by Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association members.  Virginia BCIA sponsored the sale.  The sale was managed by VA Sale Services of Staunton, Virginia and Dale Stith was the auctioneer.
