2001 CULPEPER SENIOR BCIA BULL SALE RESULTS

The 44th Annual Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association Culpeper Senior Bull Sale was held Saturday, December 8, 2001 at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises in Culpeper, Virginia.  Sixty-two bulls representing the top sixty percent of the 96 bulls tested sold for an average price of $1906.  Breed averages were as follows:  60 Angus at $1910, and 2 Gelbvieh at $1800.

 

The top selling bull was Angus Lot 2, consigned by Echo Ridge Farm of Atkins, Virginia.  Two-thirds interest and full possession of this son of Rito 7A19 of 3B7 Discovery sold to Morrowdale Farm of Charlottesville, Virginia for $5100.  The bull had a test gain of 5.54, ratio 141, and an adjusted yearling weight of 1421, ratio 118.  His expected progeny difference for birth weight was +2.5, weaning weight +39, milk +25, and yearling weight +70.  Lot 40, an Angus consignment from Quaker Hill Farm in Louisa, Virginia commanded $4500 from McBee Angus Ranch of Cowan, Tennessee for two-thirds interest and full possession.  This Rito 6I6 of 4B20 6807 son had a 5.04 ADG, ratio 129, and an adjusted yearling weight of 1455, ratio 121.  His EPDs were +1.6 for birth weight, weaning weight +48, milk +22, and yearling weight +89.  North Point Farm of Waynesboro, Virginia purchased lot 36, consigned by Holly Hill Farm Corporation of Bowling Green, Virginia for $3100.  This B/R New Design 036 son gained 4.87 on test, ratio 124, with an adjusted yearling weight of 1435, ratio 119.  His EPDs were +3.1, +41, +26, and +75, and +.21 for U%IMF and +.27 for UREA.  Another consignment from Quaker Hill Farm, Lot 47, sold to Croft Brothers of Swoope, Virginia for $3000.  This bull was sired by Plowman 1627 of Millbrae SAR and had a test ADG of 4.06, ratio 104, and an adjusted yearling weight of 1220, ratio 101.  His EPDs were +4.7, +45, +18, and +84. 

 

C.H. Morris and Sons of Appomattox, Virginia consigned the high selling Gelbvieh bull which went to Shen-Val Farm of Stephens City, Virginia for $2500.  This polled, black son of CTR Echo 575E gained 4.55 on test, ratio 145, had an adjusted yearling weight of 1237, ratio 111, and had EPDs of calving ease 102, birth weight +2.7, weaning weight +42, milk +25, and yearling weight +68.

 

All bulls in the test and sale were consigned by members of the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association.  Bulls were tested at the Culpeper bull test station operated by Glenmary Farm, Tom and Kim Nixon, at Rapidan, Virginia.  Sale manager was VA Sale Services in Staunton and the auctioneer was Mike Jones.
