VIRGINIA BCIA 2001 BLACKSTONE BULL AND HEIFER SALE RESULTS

The 17th Annual Southside Virginia All Breed Performance Tested Bull Sale and 11th Annual Commercial Replacement Heifer Sale was held Friday evening, November 16, 2001 at the Southside Livestock Market in Blackstone, Virginia.  A total of 14 Angus bulls grossed $16,050 for an average of $1146.  Eighteen spring-calving bred heifers grossed $15,150 to average $842, and four fall-born open heifers grossed $2800 to average $700.

 

The top selling bull was consigned by Shelton Angus Farm at Gretna, Virginia and sold to Mark Tucker of Chatham, Virginia for $1850.  This September, 2000 son of Rito 6I6 of 4B20 6807 had EPDs of birth weight +2.7, weaning weight +36, maternal milk +20, and yearling weight +76, with an on-farm test ADG of 5.05 and adjusted yearling weight of 1350.  Shelton Angus Farms consigned another son of Rito 6I6 of 4B20 6807 which sold to Danny Royster of Amelia, Virginia for $1650.

 

All heifers sold met the qualifications for the Virginia Premium Assured Heifer program.  The bred heifer sale was topped by two lots of ¾ Angus x ¼ Gelbvieh females bred to Rito 6I6 4B20 6807 and KCF Kincaid J20, and one lot of ¾ Red Angus x ¼ Hereford heifers bred to Buster.  These March-calving heifers, consigned by Tucker Family Farms in Amherst, Virginia brought $850 per head and sold to Louis Clay of Dewitt, Virginia, John Anderson of South Boston, Virginia and Kenneth Mount of Dillwyn, Virginia .

 

The open heifers were consigned by Edgewood Farms in Williamsburg, Virginia and sold to William Parks of Skipwith, Virginia.

 

The sale was sponsored by the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association, headquartered in Blacksburg, Virginia.  The sale was managed by VA Sale Services of Staunton, Virginia and E.B. Harris was the auctioneer.
